Have you ever looked over at the car next to you

at a stoplight and realized that the person in the passenger seat is singing the same exact song you are listening to on the radio? Tonight after I dropped Jenny off in Bucktown I pulled up next to a Jeep and watched a girl dance in the passenger seat, mouthing the words to the same song I was listening to. I should have made some sort of signal that I was listening to the same song (somehow?) but I was right next to old Cabrini Green and that made me a bit hesitant to make any kind of signal at all. I just savored my knowledge in silence instead.

So it's Halloween. I definitely can say that I had a good time. I made a bunch of food and had the gang over for a feast complete with bottles of wine and apple cider. Delightful. Martise brought over a bunch of scary movies but in the end we opted for the most ridiculous one in his collection: Leprechaun from the Hood. No, I'm not kidding. It was a Leprechaun movie that features Ice-T and Coolio and takes place in Compton. The "Lep" as he called himself rapped things out and turned hookers into green eyed zombies who did his bidding. It was possibly the worst movie I've ever seen but it was pretty funny at times. A good choice for a group of people who just feel like being silly.

I checked my voicemail today for the first time in two weeks. If you know me, you know that I have a really nasty habit of never checking my voicemail. The best way to reach me is to call again, or text me if you can't get ahold of me the first time. I just never got in the habit of checking it. Plus I don't like being held accountable for things and choose to just ignore them instead of facing things head on.

Anyway I digress. So I checked my vm tonight and I had a message from Alex, the IIT fratboy president that I danced/slobbered with at The Apartment two Fridays ago. You know, the same night as the limo extravaganza. I had no idea that this guy called me at all since it never registered on my phone at the time. His message said, "Hey Katie this is Alex from the bar Friday night. I wanted to see if you would be interested in going out on a date sometime."

I clapped my hand over my mouth and started laughing as I listened to this. I guess when he said "I'll call you tomorrow!" he really meant it. Funny how I just got the memo two weeks later. Whoops?

Now I'm savoring the last moments of Rocktoberween and I'm watching The Nightmare Before Christmas before I sojourn off to bed. Have you ever watched that movie? Tim Burton is a flippin' genius. I love his movies, from this one to Edward Scissorhands and everything in between. Sometimes people think that my fascination with his movies is strange since they can be rather dark or just too different from the usual cookie cutter flicks, but maybe it just goes hand in hand with why I like Poe so much. I just dig that sort of stuff.

Today I got to give candy to a trick or treater and it made my day. As I walked into my building, a little girl dressed as a lacy pink princess tiptoed into the lobby behind me. The doorman was helping someone get into the elevator with a load of groceries, so I jumped on the opportunity to grab the plastic Jack o' Lantern on the front desk and offer her some candy. As she gingerly took a small Hershey Kiss I enthusiastically encouraged her to take more pieces and she eagerly complied. I stole a glance at the doorman and smiled. Totally made my day. I guess Gold Coast kids get to trick or treat too.

I'm ready for the weekend right now. I want to go drinking and get a bit slopsters again. Saturday = Milwaukee for Kat's 24th birthday celebration and me staying at Joe's place. It's going to be wild. Who even knows how that open bar ridiculousness will end up. Friday night is the Sia concert, and ? What should I do with the rest of my Friday night people? Hmmm..up in the air for now. Sunday is another Supper Club dinner at Ken's house. I'm psyched.

Ok back to Nightmare Before Christmas, my pumpkin spice tealights, and denial that I have to go to work tomorrow.
